This site presents the Daily Office — Morning Prayer, Midday Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline — from the Book of Common Prayer (2019) of the Anglican Church in North America, assembled for every day of the church year from the 2019 Daily Office Lectionary and the New Coverdale Psalter. The site is fully static: your browser computes the liturgical day from the civil date and builds the office from pre-built data. It is a companion to the 1928 Daily Office.

Calendar and feed subscriptions

The Psalms and Lessons may be followed outside the site as well. Three iCalendar feeds place each day of the church year on your own calendar as an all-day event, and may be subscribed to in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook, or any application that accepts an iCalendar address:

An RSS feed (https://2019.riteandrubric.com/feeds/office.xml) publishes the full Psalms and Lessons twice a day — Morning Prayer at six in the morning and Evening Prayer at four in the afternoon, Eastern time — with a link to pray the complete office here.

A printable wall calendar for the current and coming year (PDF, or a package for InDesign) is offered on the year view of the calendar.

Sources

• The offices, collects, Great Litany, Occasional Prayers, calendar, Daily Office Lectionary, and the New Coverdale Psalter are from the Book of Common Prayer (2019), published by Anglican Liturgy Press; the official texts are at bcp2019.anglicanchurch.net.
• The Scripture lessons are set in the King James Version (with the Apocrypha), which is in the public domain; the Apocrypha is from the eBible.org eng-kjv edition. The 2019 book itself normally quotes the ESV; the lessons here are the KJV because the ESV cannot be reproduced at this scale without a license. The reading pipeline is translation-agnostic and can be rebuilt from any licensed translation.
• The Psalms are always given in the New Coverdale Psalter, whose versification the 2019 lectionary cites.

Editorial decisions

• Readings. Each day shows the lessons appointed by the Daily Office Lectionary for that civil date. The seven feasts tied to the date of Easter (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Day, Ascension Day, and the Day of Pentecost) use their proper lessons and psalms. On a Sunday, if Morning Prayer is the principal service, the psalm and lessons of the Sunday & Holy Day Lectionary may be used instead.
• Psalms. The office shows the psalms of the traditional thirty-day course by day of the month; the alternate sixty-day cycle is offered as an alternative where the lectionary provides it.
• Precedence and transfer. Principal Feasts take precedence over all else; nothing displaces the propers of Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, or Easter Week. A red-letter Holy Day falling on a Sunday in Advent, Lent, or Eastertide is transferred to the next open weekday; on other Sundays it is kept on the day.
